Naples Grande Beach Resort: Surprisingly Family-Friendly Stay on Florida's Gulf Coast

Stately, elegant, and favored by retirees and snowbirders, the city of Naples, Florida has not been top of mind for parents in search of a family-friendly Florida beach vacation. The Naples Grande Beach Resort is attempting to change that.
Purchased by a United Kingdom-based resort company in 2022, the former Waldorf Astoria Naples has embarked on a mission to attract families to the southwestern Florida city with kid-friendly amenities that include a pool and water slide, access to the white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast, eco-friendly excursions ideal for teens, and a number of choice restaurants.
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
My family visited in June, and while the weather was not ideal we were able to glimpse a bit of what makes the Naples Grande Beach Resort unique, particularly the idyllic beach, where warm water temperatures mix with shimmering sand in a postcard-like setting.
It’s worth a stay if you are visiting this popular tourist area, which is accessible via Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers (40 minutes by car).
A bit about the Naples Grande Beach Resort. There has been a resort at the Seagate Drive property since 1988. The current property offers 474 guest rooms, three pools, six restaurants, and a spa. Our large-size room was quiet, and the only noise poolside came from kids enjoying the iconic water slide.

Then, there is the beach. While not waterfront, the Naples Grande offers trolley service along its boardwalk to its Gulf beach. The trip takes less than five minutes through a nature area popular with migrating birds, sea life, and other creatures of the mangroves. In addition to being unimpeachably polite, the trolley drivers can entertain with stories of the area and things to do should you leave the property.
The resort offers paddleboard and eco-kayak excursions ideal for teens and pre-teens.
Before you depart the resort for the city’s attractions, it’s worth mentioning the eco-kayak excursions the hotel offers. These tours, led by experienced and knowledgeable guides, take guests through the mangrove ecosystems of Naples, offering a mix of adventure and exploration. The tours, which are suitable for various skill levels, are an ideal option for teens eager for more than beachfront relaxation.
The Naples Grande also features 15 tennis courts on site and its own golf course off the property. The resort is about a 15-minute ride from Naples’ attractions. These include the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, and the city’s iconic trolley tours.
