Calamigos Guest Ranch is beautiful any time of the year. The sprawling oaks set amongst the hills in this rustic and rejuvenating slice of Heaven is the perfect getaway from the hectic melee of the big city. From the time I drove through the entrance, it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders; Calamigos Guest Ranch is a breath of pure, crisp winter air, and almost lets you forget the panic over unfulfilled Christmas wish lists, teacher gifts, and holiday obligations.

While I’d recommend a short staycation at Calamigos in June, October, or February, December also stands out for its festive atmosphere. Right now, this magical spot is bedecked in Christmas lights and has lots of holiday fun for the whole family. In fact, Calamigos offers lots of Christmas programming for hotel guests and members leading up to the big holiday!

Calamigos Guest Ranch's Holiday Offerings Are a Treat for the Whole Family

Enjoy a Cozy Holiday Meal at The Ranch Club

The Ranch Club is the perfect place for a December dinner (or lunch, or brunch). Meals are crafted from seasonal flavors, and the ingredients are sourced locally. And while adults enjoy gourmet meals that are a treat for your taste buds, kids will stay happy with a robust kids' menu (and coloring pages to keep them busy!). My daughter’s Mac n’ Cheese was impressively delicious, and I even snuck in a few bites here and there (Oh, and don’t sleep on the French Fries; you’ll want to steal those off the kiddos’ plates too). Recline in a cozy booth bedecked with holiday pillows, surrounded by Christmas lights, and swirling with holiday tunes—this just might be your “most wonderful meal of the year.”

Cocoa by the Fire Near Gentry Market

Not far from The Ranch Club is Calamigos’ adorable cafe packed with pastries, coffee, lunch options, and festive holiday drinks. Grab a peppermint latte (housemade syrups!) or a cup of hot cocoa (with marshmallows and whipped cream, of course) and head outside to the open fire pits dappling the lawn outside Gentry Market. Warm your hands (and your hearts) while enjoying a warm beverage and looking at the twinkling lights throughout the premises. S’mores kits are available, as well.

On weekends, Calamigos offers a wood-fired pizza service in the same area, so you can get a slice (or two, or three) of delicious pie for your fireside gathering. The spacious lawn is the perfect spot for kids to run and play while the adults catch up. Bottled wine service is available, too. The best part? Gentry Market is open to the public daily from 7am - 5pm- so you don’t even need to book a stay to enjoy all the Christmas cheer.

Also, Mondays - Thursdays, Spa Calamigos is open to the public: talk about the perfect Christmas gift for an adult in your life who needs a little relaxation. Additionally, Spa Calamigos is the perfect way to treat yourself as January rolls in and you take stock of your health and wellness routines. (I sure hope my husband reads this… hint, hint).

The Holiday Christmas Market

While the holiday Christmas market at Calamigos Guest Ranch has come and gone, we were lucky enough to be invited this year, and it’s worth noting that you should mark it on your calendar for 2026. Kiddos of hotel guests or Calamigos members can ride a vintage carousel, craft an ornament, decorate a stocking, and dance to the live music, while parents indulge at the open bar, charcuterie tables, and snack display. My daughter won’t stop talking about her “Christmas” popcorn (red and green). It was the sweetest time soaking in some Christmas with my daughter, and we hope to be back next year.

Make Sure to Say “Hi” to Biscuit & Honey

Calamigos Guest Ranch just got two new boarders, and they’re not Angelinos craving a retreat. They’re two adorable miniature horses, Biscuit and Honey. They joined us at the Holiday Christmas Market for some pats and pets, but they live in a corral directly across from the Ranch Club parking lot. Make sure to hi: they’re the cutest things you ever did see!

A Calamigos Membership - The Perfect Family Christmas Present

Overwhelmed by Christmas lists and looking to invest in an experience instead of 20 new toys? A Calamigos Membership is one of the best family memberships in LA. Every week, Calamigos offers engaging, hands-on events for kids (such as pizza making or craft nights), in addition to wine tastings and brand pop-ups for adults.

Plus, Calamigos will entertain the kids while you sneak away on a date during one of their monthly Date Nights. It’s a gift rivaling anything coming out of the North Pole. Plus, you’d have access to The Holiday Christmas Market next year. This gift keeps giving seasonally, as Calamigos Beach Club becomes a summer haven on the coastline when the weather warms up.

Family Friendly Rooms for Mid-Winter R & R

At Calamigos, the state-of-the-art sleeping arrangements vary both in size and aesthetic. Guests can choose from one, two, or three-bedroom bungalows, or opt for a cottage suite or estate room on the property. No matter which room fits your family best, it will be stocked with Calamigos signature amenities such as plush slippers, fluffy robes, and the most divinely scented Flamingo Estate toiletries. Visitors are steps away from a winter wonderland, with the coziest bed to burrow into upon their return.

Wandering the Grounds at Calamigos Guest Ranch

Calamigos Christmas has hit the guest ranch, and no matter where you wander, the place is resplendent. My daughter and I went on an extensive walk, admiring the scenery, gazing at the lake, and finding all the waterfalls on the property (there are a lot of them).

We peeked at the pools, and if the December air hadn’t been so chilly, we would have been tempted to switch into swimsuits and take a dip. The area is so serene, and I can see us finding our way back in the summer to experience a whole new side of the ranch. Here’s to a winter wonderland of fun at Calamigos Guest Ranch this December; I sincerely hope you get to check it out with your family and friends before the winter fades into spring!
