Guide to Making Art (and a Mess) in Connecticut

Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between making art and making a mess. And sometimes, making a mess is encouraged when kids visit these fun art studios in Connecticut. Between (very) hands-on painting workshops and splatter rooms that call for the messiest painting possible, kids will delight in their artistry. Get you kids excited for creativity by making art and a mess at these family-friendly studios in Connecticut.

Making Art and a Mess in Fairfield County

1. Pop Art Kids - Wilton & Ridgefield

Kids of all abilities are welcome to get painting at this Fairfield County Studio. Artists as young as 18 months (and up to 5 years) can get messy and creative at Wilton's Pop Art Kids. Pop Arts Kids has camps and classes with fun themes and plenty of color. Parties are also available for creative celebrations.

2. Splatter Box - Westport

Wesport's Splatter Box is an ideal for a messy art party for kids age 5 to 12. Birthday party themes include slime, glow in the dark, and custom painting; packages start at $450. Splatter Box also hosts camps in the Summer, as well as during February and April Breaks. And drop-in times feature 3-hour blocks of themed painting.

3. Abrakadoodle Art Studio - Trumbull

Abrakadoodle in Trumbull has camps, classes, and workshops for kids 20 months old and up. Camps include fun themes like STEAM and slime. Trumbull's Abrakadoodle also offers birthday parties.

4. The Giggling Pig - Multiple Locations

With seven locations in Connecticut, the Giggling Pig offers a whole bunch of seasonal and summer camps (with a variety of themes), workshops, and parties. The Giggling Pig is a fully licensed CT day camp. There are also walk-in hours (by appointment) and open studio sessions.

5. Art Monster Studio - Norwalk

Norwalk's Art Monster Studio offers classes for kids ages 7 to 13. The children's parties at Art Monster include graffiti, cartooning, skateboard art, mural painting, and other kid-friendly (and delightfully messy) themes.

6. The Studio - Fairfield

The Studio Fairfield has lots of hands on art for kids, including pottery wheel and clay handbuilding. Exporatory studio work is also available, and kids can work with painting, drawing and paper mache. The Studio also helps budding young artists get their portfolios together.

7. Creative Jam Art Co. - Bristol

The art here can get both super messy and super fun! Creative Jam Art has a variety of kid-friendly offerings, like family fun nights and summer art workshops for kids. Kids will love the "fluid art of paint-pouring" that gets those creative juices really flowing. Birthday parties start at $470.

8. Arty Pants - South Windsor

South Windsor's Arty Pants by Mansi specializes in art classes, workshops, and parties for kids ages 5 to 14. Classes are available online and in person. Art classes and parties are available for grown ups too!

9. Art Studio of Connecticut - Berlin

Kids classes at Art Studio of Connecticut have fun themes like super heroes, monsters, and Wicked. Family paint time is available on weekends, and party packages start at $350.

10. Homegrown Studio - West Hartford

Homegrown Studio specializes in sensory exploration, and kids are encouraged to have fun and make a beautiful mess when creating art. Homegrown Studio has regular and pop-up classes, as well as camps, tween nights, and birthday parties starting at $350.

11. Fun with Nature - North Haven

North Haven's Fun with Nature encourages artsy mess-making for toddlers, kids, and adults. Make a reservation for family paint splatter sessions or book a memorable birthday party. Camps and classes are available for artists of all ages, from toddlers on up.

12. Catalyst Art Studio - Wallingford

Visitors to Catalyst Art Studio get to pull on a smock and explore their creativity. Classes are available for children 4 to 6 years old and kids age 7 to 12. Birthday party packages include painting or pottery, with packages starting at $335.

13. Art Matters Studio - Madison

This Madison studio caters to creativity at every level, starting with sensory experiences for the littlest ones. Art Matters Studio offers after school and evening classes. Party packages include painting and fun with clay; packages start at $350. Private lessons and camps are also available.

14. Eventful Splat & Craft Studio - Meriden

The "Splat Room" at Eventful Splat & Craft Studio specializes in "creative chaos." Families can book a drop-in session for messy fun or sign up for a range of more low-key monthly workshops, with offerings like birdhouse painting. Party packages start at $300.

15. Pinspiration- East Lyme

Pinspiration has the right spaces for messy art in Eastern Connecticut. A visit to to the studio's "Splatter Room" starts at $26 per person. There are a range of workshops and parties too.

16. Doodles Kids Art Classes - Niantic

Doodles Kids encourages young artists to make a mess in the studio (and maybe spare you the mess at home). Classes and mini-camps are available for toddlers, 3 to 4-year-olds, and kids age 5 to 8.
