Good things seem to come in pairs: Two large-scale fairs—the Dutchess County Fair and the New York Renaissance Faire; two military-themed events—Living History: Military Reenactment Day and New York Air Show; and two nature-themed highlights—Muscoot's 40th Birthday and Hands-On Nature Programs for Curious Kids.

For a FREE performance by a troupe that’s played at Carnegie Hall, catch the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company. Pixie lovers will delight in a Fairy Walk, while baseball fans can enjoy extra entertainment at Rockland Boulders Beach Day. For midway fun, try the Otisville Country Fair, and the most intriguing nature program on our radar is Sky Hunters in Flight, which introduces visitors to the uncommon sport of falconry.

Weekend Fun for Westchester Families: Renn Faire Free for Kids, Mess Fest, Carnival, Aug. 8-9

Here’s hoping you’re staying in town this weekend, ’cause there’s plenty for families to do in Westchester and the Hudson Valley!

For one, it’s a great time to visit the New York Renaissance Faire, as there are perks for kids--including free admission! For an excellent excuse to get messy (think mud pit and pie tosses!), support a good cause at Muddy Puddles Mess Fest. More fun can be had at the South Salem Fire Department's Carnival, and evening entertainment includes an instrument petting zoo at the Kid's Night concert.

Two big county fairs headline—the Orange County Fair and the Putnam County Fair. There’s also a centennial birthday party for a carousel. For a S.T.E.M. experience, sign your little Einstein up for Mad Science Marvels of Motion. Bibliophiles will be all a-Buzz at the Fly Guy Festival, and young (and old) divas can let it go at the Frozen Sing-Along.
