Tickled Pink! See the Playful New Art Popping Up in Flatiron Beginning Today

1/15/26 - By Jennifer Setteducato

Just when it seems the dreariness of winter has taken hold of the city, along comes a pop of playfulness and color gracing the rooftops and plazas of the Flatiron District and NoMad neighborhoods.

Mr. Pink lands in the district today, bringing a FREE public art trail of 10 illuminated inflatable sculptures from French artist Philippe Katerine to the area. The naked, cartoon-like, bubblegum-pink sculptures range from 9-16 feet tall, creating a whimsical, snapshot-worthy moment for visitors and encouraging passersby to linger and discover all the fun in the neighborhood.

Read on for more details on where to find these whimsical installations, which remain on display through the end of February.

Katerine's work embraces the philosophy he founded called “Mignonisme,” or “Cuteism,” intertwining color, creativity, and playfulness into everyday life. The pudgy pink character has been known to peer through city windows, hover above sidewalks, and climb up the sides of buildings, bringing a bit of joy and silliness to the day.

“Mr. Pink engages directly with those he encounters,” according to Katerine. “If he waves, he asks for a response. If he opens his arms, he offers comfort. If he points the way, it is to remind us that there is always a direction, always a place where providence can be found. Encountering Mr. Pink in a city is never a coincidence.”

Towering—yet playful—Mr. Pink aims to brighten up the cold winter months in this NYC neighborhood.

The installation is sponsored by the Flatiron NoMad Partnership and accompanied by six weeks of Flatiron NoMad Glows Pink festivities across the district. Highlights for families include:

  • Weekly guided tours showcasing art and neighborhood history each Saturday at 11am from Like a Local Tours.
  • A self-guided art trail where visitors who check in at all installations via QR code enter a raffle to win neighborhood prizes, including a two-night stay at Hotel Seville NoMad.
  • A special Valentine’s Day promotion on Wednesday, February 11, with themed installations and special photo-ops on the Flatiron North Plaza.
  • Ongoing offers and experiences from local businesses throughout the district.

"By animating our rooftops and plazas with bold, joyful art, we’re supporting local businesses, energizing public space, and shining a light on what makes these districts so iconic," says James Mettham, president of the Flatiron NoMad partnership.
