Looking for fun and safe ways for teens and tweens to enjoy Long Island after dark? Whether they're into escape rooms, live music, late-night museums, or giving back through volunteer work, there are plenty of exciting evening activities that allow teens to have a great time while giving parents peace of mind.

Fun After-Dark Spots for Long Island Teens

Adventureland — Farmingdale

Why it’s great for teens: Boasting a variety of thrill and water rides—plus arcade and carnival-style games, this action-packed park is the prime teen scene spot. Bonus: Check out Alfie’s Last Call deal for discounted pricing two hours before the park closes at 10pm.
Hours: Open until 10pm most evenings
Need to know info for parents: Non-rider parents/chaperones must pay the adult admission fee. Guests under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult/chaperone. 

RPM Raceway — Farmingdale

Why it’s great for teens: At this indoor, two-level go-kart racing park, drivers compete in side-by-side racing on two separate, quarter-mile tracks. Races last about 10 minutes, and the facility also features an arcade, pool tables, a race simulator, AR/VR games, and more, allowing teens to have hours of fun. Bonus: On Mondays, this spot combines both tracks for a mega-track racing experience. NOTE: All drivers must wear closed-toe shoes to race, and teens must be at least 58" to race.
Hours: Open until 10pm weekdays, 11pm weekends
Need to know info for parents: Anyone under the age of 18 requires a parent/legal guardian to sign a waiver before racing. This can be done online or in person. One parent can be responsible for a group of kids.

Samanea Mall  Westbury

Why it’s great for teens: An entertainment destination, Samanea Mall provides endless entertainment for teens. From Empire Adventure Park and Ryco's Escape Room to Smash It Therapy and even NY Axe Throwing, teens can spend hours here being entertained over one or multiple visits. There are plenty of spots to grab a bite on site, as well as a Dave & Busters. 
Hours: Open until 9-10pm
Need to know info for parents: Empire Adventure Park requires a waiver and recommends purchasing tickets ahead to avoid extended wait times. Socks are required. NY Axe offers axe throwing and archery, both of which require waivers. Closed-toed shoes are required. Smash It Therapy is open on weekends, requires a waiver, and special safety equipment. One of the games at Ryco's Escape Room, Asylum, is recommended for ages 13+.

Bayville Adventure Park — Bayville

Why it’s great for teens: Teens will have a blast at this amusement park facing the Long Island Sound. The entire place is pirate-themed, with rock climbing walls, an aerial adventure ropes course, an arcade, and a funhouse perfect for tweens and teens alike. Strap in, spring up, and soar sky-high as you leap and flip on a high-flying bungee trampoline experience. Plus, the park features a bumper-boat safari ride and a spirited water balloon attraction. Bonus attraction: In the autumn and around St. Patrick's Day, the park transitions into Bayville Scream Park, but read on for more about that!
Hours: Closes at 8pm on weekdays and 10pm on weekends
Need to know info for parents: Everyone needs a ticket to enter the park, even chaperones. However, teens ages 16+ can visit this spot on their own. The VIP Pay One Price ticket offers unlimited use of the attractions all day. The park is right by the beach, and kids can easily visit before/after. 

Axe Kicking Entertainment – Mineola

Why it's great for teens: Teens can enjoy simple axe-throwing target tossing or graduate to more sophisticated games, including plate smashing, football bowling, soft-tip archery, and even human foosball at this attraction geared toward older ages. Play a game la carte, and take a break in between to catch your breath.
Hours: Open until 10pm-midnight
Need to know info for parents: Ages 10+ for axe throwing and 8+ for all other activities. Anyone under 18 must play with an adult.

Main St. Board Game Cafe — Huntington

Why it's great for teens: This electronics-free entertainment experience for teens is a nod to nostalgia while offering modern options as well. Walk in anytime and check out the library of over 300 board games, or attend one of the special competitive events. Offerings include after-school gaming clubs, Dungeons & Dragons meet-ups, chess, monthly puzzle race nights, and more. 
Hours: Open until 11pm most evenings
Need to know info for parents: Staff is on hand to facilitate game choice and play if needed. Pay one price and play as many games as you want for up to three hours. Plus, you can reserve a spot online ahead of time.

Laser tag is a great way for teens to enjoy a friendly competition

Scott's Pointe — Calverton

Why it's great for teens: Scott's Pointe in Calverton is the ultimate destination for thrill-seekers, water lovers, and outdoor adventurers. Teens can compete in ax throwing, laser tag, rock wall climbing, and more before heading outside to the mile-long go-kart track. Hit it when there's still some daylight out and teens can bounce and splash on Long Island's only aquapark here as well. 
Hours: Open until  7pm weekdays, 9pm weekends
Need to know info for parents: Sign waivers in advance or on-site. Some activities are a la carte. No charge for chaperones. For indoor surfing, participants must be 46” to bodyboard and 52” to surf. For go-karts, participants must be at least 58" tall or 16 years old to drive. Passengers must be a minimum of 40" tall to ride in a double.

Escape Rooms

Why it's great for teens: Escape rooms offer the perfect mix of adventure, teamwork, and brain-teasing challenges—all in a safe, supervised environment. Each offers a unique way for teens to use their imaginations, develop team-building and problem-solving skills, and most of all, have a blast.

Arcades

Why it's great for teens: Get those teen gamers off the couch and out of the house at these awesome Long Island arcade options. Most of these are located at party places or sports complexes and offer other activities, such as laser tag, bowling, or even mini golf.

Laser Tag

Why it's great for teens: Laser tag games challenge players physically and mentally as they strategically attempt to tag opponents. From forging allies to friendly competition, laser tag keeps teens active and engaged.
Hours: open until  mostly until 9-10pm

Roller Skating

Why it's great for teens: Roller skating is a decades-old pastime on Long Island. Teens can take a break from skating and hit up the on-site arcades, grab a slice of pizza, and chat as part of the social scene. At United Skates of America in Seaford, teens can also have an extra "lit" time during the Glow in the Dark Skate events from 7-9pm.
Hours: Open until 10pm-midnight most nights

Ice Skating

Why it's great for teens: Outdoor and indoor rinks across Long Island are an excellent way for teens to gather while getting some exercise. Supervised sessions, food concessions, and arcade options offer a safe environment. From open-skate times, group and private lessons, birthday parties, and sports leagues, teens can find different ways to have a cool time at one of these skate spots.

After-Dark Events for Long Island Teens

Neon Nights – Splish Splash, Calverton

Why it’s great for teens: Tune-loving teens will enjoy this electric new event under the stars at Splish Splash. On select summer nights through mid-August, the venue has an after-dark evening splash session punctuated by DJ-spun tunes and dazzling LED lights in addition to the usual water park fun. Littles will likely be in bed, making this activity ripe for the teen social scene. 
Hours: Open until 7-10pm
Need to know info for parents: Regular park waivers are required. All guests require admission. Attractions included are Bootlegger's Run, Bombs Away, Riptide Racer, Dr. Von Dark's Tunnel of Terror, and Kahuna Bay Wavepool only. 

Glow in the Park – The Adventure Park at Long Island, Wheatley Heights

Why it’s great for teens: Experience The Adventure Park at Long Island in a new light by visiting during one of their Glow in the Park events. Guided by only the night's starry sky and a bunch of string LED lights and pumping music, this treetop adventure is appropriate for ages 7+. 
Hours: Course start times run from 6-7:30pm
Parents need to know: Parents must sign a waiver. Park-goers must attend a 10-15 minute safety briefing. 

Flourish Fridays – Red Barn Farm, Baiting Hollow

Why it’s great for teens: Teenagers dealing with everyday stresses and worries can escape on a wellness respite at Red Barn Farm during the summer. Visit and explore the farm's back field on a meditative walk, meet the alpacas and mini horses, take part in sound healing, and more as part of this unique experience.
Hours: 5-7pm
Parents need to know: Online reservations are preferred with a $25 deposit. A mat or folded blanket to lie or sit on is suggested.

Haunted Houses

Why they're great for teens: During the Halloween season, fright nights are all the rage. If teens can handle the thrill, various attractions across Long Island offer chilling haunts with dark corn mazes, live actors, freaky sights, and more. Check out Schmitt's FarmBayville Scream Park, Clark Botanic Garden, and Gateway Playhouse Haunt for options that scream Halloween fun and fright.
Parents need to know: Check the scare ratings for each venue ahead of time. Parents might not want to venture too far in case their bold teens get cold feet!

Navigating Long Island at Night: Tips for Teens & Parents

  • What are some safe areas for teens to hang out in Long Island at night?

  • Port Jefferson Village: Quaint downtown, ice cream shops, bookstores, and harborside parks.

  • Huntington: Popular with teens; has dessert spots, local events, and a vibrant but family-friendly scene that includes The Paramount for music and shows.

  • Rockville Centre: Busy in the evenings, with cafes, arts and crafts shops, and a strong police presence. Plus, it's on the Babylon train line for easy traveling.

  • Babylon Village: Safe, walkable, with a small-town feel. Nice for evening strolls and late-night bites. The nearby train station provides mass transit options.

  • Garden City: Upscale, quiet, and safe. Great for window shopping and dessert cafes.

  • ​How can my teen get around Long Island safely at night?

  • Best Practices: Stay in Groups, as teens are safer when traveling with friends.
  • Use Rideshare Apps Wisely: Uber/Lyft can be reliable, but parents should set ground rules (e.g., track rides via the app, confirm license plate).
  • Public Transit (LIRR & NICE Bus): LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) is generally safe, especially between major hubs like Huntington, Babylon, Mineola, and Penn Station.
  • Teens should avoid late-night solo travel and stay in well-lit areas at stations.
  • Parent Ride Schedules: Carpooling with other trusted families can work well for off-hour activities.
  • Are there options for teens who prefer quieter activities?

  • Some coffee shops, like The Cup in Wantagh and The Witches Brew in West Hempstead, are open later, offering small bites and sweet treats, open mics, live music, and more. 

  • Libraries have programming for tweens/teens that often begins in the evenings. From cooking and crafts to wellness and gaming, these free options are wallet-friendly and often within walking distance of your own home!
