Whale of a Day
Palos Verdes' annual festival celebrating the migration of the Pacific gray whale is held on the main grounds of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and at the adjacent lighthouse.
Activities for children include inflatables, face painting, crafts, and games, along with informative exhibits and live music. Guests can tour the Interpretive Center’s museum and the grounds of the Point Vicente Lighthouse.
One of the neat things about this event is the volunteers who sit scanning the waves relentlessly, so that any passing whale (or dolphin) is immediately announced, vastly improving one's chances of getting in on the sea mammal action.
Food is available for purchase. Free parking with shuttle service is available at the Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall, located at 30940 Hawthorne Blvd.
