When it comes to Halloween thrills with kids, a tricked-out haunted house or spooky Halloween walk might be the right kind of boo for you. Haunted houses have long been popular suburban Halloween staples, but haunted houses in NYC are more limited. The most spooky picks, like Blood Manor, are definitely for teens and older. There are, however, a handful of haunted houses in New York City offering gentler Halloween chills for families.

Read on for the scoop on kid-friendly haunted houses in NYC, plus a few more scary options for tweens and teens. Be sure to heed the scare factor. While grade-school kids can attend most of these, not all are suitable for preschoolers. 1. Little Park of Horrors – Chelsea

Best for: All-ages
Highlights: This spooky Halloween event celebrates NYC’s fierce and resilient nature, showcasing plants and creatures—both real and imagined—that come alive on The High Line at night. Everyone is encouraged to wear their costumes and experience Halloween games and activities.
Good to know: The event space is fully covered. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Sunday, October 26, 2025. Register online in advance. FREE

2. Harlem Grown's Halloween Festival – Harlem

Best for: All-ages
Highlights: This local community org hosts a day-long festival on its urban farm. Among the family-friendly activities planned is a haunted tent. Come in costume and prepared to be spooked, plus enjoy sweets, pumpkin decorating, and more fun.
Good to know: Rain date is Sunday, October 26. Admission is FREE.

3. Haunted Carousel – Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Best for: All-ages
Highlights: Celebrate Halloween in Prospect Park at the park's beloved carousel, complete with haunted horses! Don your best costume and take a spin on this spooky ride to your favorite Halloween jams.
Good to know: Tickets are $3 per ride, or purchase a book of five tickets for $13.

4. Halloween on the Farm – Floral Park, Queens

Saturday, October 25-Sunday, October 26, 2025
Scare rating: 1 ghost
Best for: All-ages
Highlights: Halloween at the Queens County Farm Museum brings a monster mash to life. Costumed kids and their grown-ups are invited for fall-themed farm fun with hayrides, kids' crafts, a run through the Amazing Maize Maze, a spooky farmhouse to explore, and best of all: trick-or-treating with furry farm friends.
Good to know: Costumes are encouraged. Food vendors are on-site. Book your tickets online in advance!

5. Boo at the Zoo – Bronx Park, the Bronx

Best for: All-ages
Highlights: Trek the candy trail, explore an extinct animal graveyard, and take in pumpkin-carving demos as the Bronx Zoo's annual Halloween tradition returns, bringing tons of family-friendly activities. New this year: a trick-or-truth maze, face painting, a creepy mystery wall, and a Halloween mashup.

Highlights: See this classic New York neighborhood through an entirely new lens. Creepy clues lead you to these now-haunted houses in NYC, which were once occupied by Edgar Allan Poe and Mark Twain, plus help you find some spooky landmarks.

7. Ghosts of New York: Greenwich Village Ghost Tour – Greenwich Village

Best for: 12 and up
Highlights: Get spooked and learn something new on this historic ghost tour. Visit haunted cemeteries, learn all about the Headless Horseman, see the hanging tree of Washington Square, and peer through Edgar Allen Poe's window—if you dare.
Good to know: The Greenwich Village Ghost tour is offered to the public on Friday and Saturday evenings. The private Greenwich Village Ghost tour is available any day of the week and can be customized. Ghosts of Grand Central is entirely indoors and a good option for the colder months.

Highlights: The Prospect Park Alliance hosts a special Halloween event at the Audubon Center, where kids of all ages can take a look at the creepy, crawly creatures. Kids can participate in fun activities and experiments like owl pellet dissection, a creepy crawly walk through the park, and enjoy Halloween-inspired treats.

9. Bronx Zoo's Harvest Glow – Bronx Park, the Bronx

Highlights: Tim Burton's murky world comes alive on the grounds of the New York Botanical Garden for the second consecutive year. Travel the lighted trail with all your favorite Halloween Town characters, including Jack Skellington, Sally, Zero, and more. Spiders crawl across the ground and high up into the canopy. There's nothing overtly scary here, but the attraction—a 45-minute walking trail—is quite dark in spots!

Best for: While there is no age restriction, be mindful that some of the props might be unsettling for young children, and actors do get close to the car.
Highlights: Your car might not feel so comfortable when it's surrounded by the twisted creatures and menacing characters of Bloodshed Farms. You navigate theatrical sets full of terrifying displays and special effects in this drive-thru haunted attraction.
Good to know: Tickets must be purchased online. Only one ticket per car is necessary.

Highlights: Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse uses the numerous theatrical designers and staff at the Gateway—Long Island’s oldest professional theater—to put on Long Island's best haunted house. Professionally trained actors prepare and rehearse each character that inhabits the haunt. Attend one of its special themed nights for glow sticks, zombies, clowns, and more.

1 ghost: Mildly spooky and designed for the very young. Think friendly ghosts and gentle surprises.

2 ghosts: Moderately scary; elementary school-aged kids can probably handle this. Expect limited jump scares, creepy characters, and spooky themes that stop short of gore.

3 ghosts: Genuinely thrilling; mature tweens and teens can handle the intense scares, dark themes, and scary characters. Proceed with caution.
