Brooklyn Children's Museum Guide: Everything You Need to Know for Your Visit

Submitted by Rosalind Muggeridge on Thu, 09/21/2023 - 4:47pm

There's art as far as the eye can see in the ColorLab at the Brooklyn Children's Museum.

As the world’s first children’s museum, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum has been a beloved NYC destination since 1899. This Crown Heights institution offers three floors of rotating and permanent interactive exhibits plus hands-on cultural and science programs for little ones, ages 6 months to 10 years. The Brooklyn Children's Museum aims to inspire children to ask questions and discover answers through exploration and play.

My children and I have spent countless hours in the Totally Tots exhibit and graduated to explore all the Brooklyn Children's Museum offers. Read on to learn why the Brooklyn Children's Museum is one of our top NYC museums for kids, and find all our top culture spots in our Guide to Museums, Galleries, and Exhibits in NYC for Kids.

A couple of our picks are now local mini-chains but they all started with one great coffee shop location in NYC and grew from there. New York City's annual transformation into a holiday wonderland is pure magic no matter your age, though holiday activities and Christmas events are always more magical with little ones in tow. While NYC's zest for the holidays never gets old, the crowds at Christmas activities can be daunting—and the average toddler or preschooler tends to have limited patience for lines and lots of noise.

To that end, we've rounded up amazing holiday events and Christmas activities for preschoolers in NYC. These picks are just right for the 2-to-5-year-old set and include events that take their limited attention span into account without cutting back on the holiday fun. Our top picks for little kid Christmas activities include our very own FREE Holly Jolly Holiday Party, plus Christmas trains, Santa visits, abridged performances of holiday shows, a little gingerbread mania, and lots of interactive events and workshops.

Find all our top picks for seasonal fun for all ages in our New York City Guide to Holiday and Christmas Activities.
