54 Screen-Free Toddler Activities & Games for At Home or On the Go

Submitted by Liz Baill on Tue, 10/07/2025 - 12:00pm

Have your toddler find all their toys of a certain color! Photo by the author (@creativishmom on Instagram)

Toddlers. In addition to being world-class tantrum-throwers and tiny dictators, they’re also natural explorers and imaginative inventors who see the potential in everything from cardboard boxes to your new pair of shoes. And sometimes these busy little creatures need a distraction to survive a meal, car ride, or even a diaper change.

It’s tempting to hand over a screen in those moments. (Who hasn’t surrendered their phone on the changing table? Or is that just me?). That phone might be burning a hole in your pocket with all its Miss Rachel magic, but we’ve got over 50 simple and screen-free toddler activities to stash in that back pocket instead.

Because toddlers are hardwired with curiosity, it's easier than you might think to tap into the invaluable benefits of screen-free play, like honing social skills, practicing problem solving, and engaging in creativity and movement. This list features screen-free play ideas and distractions that will delight kids in all kinds of scenarios, whether solo or with siblings, indoors or outdoors, at the airport, or in the waiting room.

For even more screen-free play ideas and toddler activities at home, check out our Crafts for Kids Guide, which includes or list of simple crafts for toddlers and preschoolers. Or try one of our low-effort toddler games.

8 Genius AI Parenting Hacks That Will Blow Your Mind

Submitted by Liz Baill on Wed, 09/03/2025 - 10:43am

Let a chatbot help you decide what to make for dinner with picky kids and a limited pantry.

Parents are adept at finding life hacks to make the joys (read: logistical nightmares) of raising kids just a touch easier. And despite buckets of reservations, I've found a new one: Hello ChatGPT. Yes, we’re talking AI Parenting hacks and ChatGPT prompts for parents that can assist with everything from meal planning for picky eaters to personalized bedtime stories told in the style of Taylor Swift.

I was a longtime holdout for using AI for anything. And truthfully, I still have concerns, from the ethical to the environmental (more on that later). But with AI here to stay, I nudged aside my existential anxiety and looked into how parents are using it responsibly to make life easier. I asked the Mommy Poppins team their favorite AI/Chat GPT prompts and was floored to discover how quickly it became like a personal assistant.

So I tested these hacks and fine-tuned each prompt to get them just right for you to try, whether you're in the throes of toddler tantrums or depths of teen drama. Turns out, delegating the small stuff to AI so that you can focus on the big stuff is a total parenting game-changer.

Submitted by Liz Baill on Tue, 07/15/2025 - 10:52am

New parents are giddy, sleep-deprived, and prolific Googlers!

New parents are not only among the most sleep-deprived in the population, but they also happen to be some of the most prolific Googlers. With a new baby comes new baby questions, and today’s new parents have the internet at their fingertips–for better or worse.
