Linkin' B'logs: Back to School Guides 2008

8/25/08 - By Anna Fader

We launched our Back to School Guide last week and since then we've already added a bunch of new posts with more on the way. But for a special Linkin' Blogs we thought we'd give some link love to some other great back to school guides out there.

Cool Mom Picks always has the best recos for adorable stuff for moms and babies and the Cool Mom Picks Back to School Shopping Guide is jam-packed with wonderful backpacks, lunch boxes, shoes, jackets, supplies, and even snacks and organizational supplies for moms.

On a much more brass tacks level, the Consumer Reports Back to School Guide has tips for parents on health, safety, saving money and, of, course electronics recommendations. Read about vaccinations, how to save money on kids clothes, how to know if your child's backpack is too heavy and much more.

If you're looking to balance brains and beauty, check out the Mighty Junior Back to School Guide for school supplies with fun, flair and great design sensibility. Cause we all know nothing beats shopping for beautiful new school supplies.

This year's concern of the month is PVC, the toxic plastic that is used in lunchboxes, backpacks, raincoats, school supplies and other kid gear. Read about why PVC is dangerous and download the Back to School Guide to PVC-School Supplies at HealthyChild.org. The PVC-Free Back to School Guide, published by CHEJ (Center for Health, Environment and Justice) includes a list of back to school supplies that are PVC free including links for where to get them. Worth a look to see if Junior's new rain coat is toxic timebomb.

iLunchbox is a new site dedicated to helping parents make healthy lunches and snacks. The iLunchbox Back to School Guide has lunchbox ideas, tips on preparing healthy snacks and lunches, and online rsources for school suply shopping. I particularly like the section on ideas for parents to advocate to improve their school lunch program. There's also a weekly menu that focuses on turning dinner meal leftovers into kid-friendly lunches the next day.
