Geek Out this Weekend at Kids Comic Con and Big Lightsaber Fight

Being a Star Wars fanatic or a comic book geek is pretty cool in my book. And these cool kid-friendly events celebrate and bring out the geek in all of us. A giant black-lit lightsaber battle? What could be cooler than that? A comic book convention just for kids. Let's go!
There's nothing cooler than these geeky activities:

WS South & LaGuardia Pl.
Free and all ages
Join Newmindspace and NYU Program Board in a massive, glowing lightsaber battle! 3,000 blacklight-reactive, meter-long cardboard tubes will be distributed in Teen Plaza, where there will be massive blacklight cannons aimed at the crowd! Wear black, neon or both. The battle will continue until every tube is DESTROYED!
If have a Star Wars fanatic, like I do, you might also want to head to Queens on May 3rd for a free Lightsaber Combat Workshop at the public library in Kew Gardens, Queens.

For more geeky fun, don't forget. Tonight is Teenage Mutant Ninja Film and Party in Battery Park City, part of the Tribeca Film Festival. Free pizza and fun from 6-8PM and movie starts at 8:15. Read more about this event and Tribeca Film Festival.
About the Author
Founder of Mommy Poppins
A fourth-generation Brooklynite, Anna started Mommy Poppins in 2007 to help families find the best things to do with kids in NYC, with a particular emphasis on sharing activities that are free, affordable, and enriching. The site, used by millions of families, has grown to become the ultimate resource for parents in the major US cities, plus travel guides for 100s of destinations.
Anna is a believer in the magic of summer camps, traveling with kids, and that you can raise kids on a budget and still have a rich life full of amazing memories. Anna's first Mommy Poppins book, The Young Traveler's Journal and Activity Book, published in 2025 and co-written with her daughter, Amelia Eigerman, brings that ethos to life, in addition to this website.
