Philly Comedy Classes for Kids
ComedySportz Philadelphia — Philadelphia
Every Saturday at a little theater on Sansom Street, family-friendly ComedySportz shows pit teams of improv actors against each other for short, fun games based on audience suggestions. Shows that run later in the evening focus on long-form improv, with actors telling a complete story. Some of those are geared for adult viewers, so check the descriptions and ask the box office if you have any questions. Girl Scouts of all ages can participate in the Girl Power workshop to learn basics of improvisation, the power of saying "Yes, and..." and the joy of connecting with fellow performers. The sessions count towards various Girl Scout badges. ComedySportz can also be booked to conduct improv workshops with community groups and schools.
MacGuffin Theatre & Film Company — Philadelphia
Monthly open-mic nights at the MacGuffin Theatre and Film Company include Broadway songs, monologues and scenes, and improv comedy. These are family-friendly open mic nights designed to give young actors a chance to show off their skills. Kids aged 7 to 18 can also take courses in comedy, drama, musical theatre, and film.
The Lab — Ambler
The Lab in Ambler offers classes for kids in grades 4th through 10th. The six-week class teaches kids the basics of improv through fun games.
Arden Theatre Company — Philadelphia
Arden Children's Theatre invites kids to experience theater, often through adaptations of popular children's stories. From twisted fairy tales to silly poetry, the season usually includes at least one production with comic vibes. Children of all ages can learn theatre skills and use their imaginations in many of the workshops and classes at Arden Theatre Company. The exact classes offered vary, but there's often at least one workshop that involves improvisational skills.

Walnut Street Theater — Philadelphia
While Walnut Street Theater's seasons tend to include a wide range of styles, there's often at least one humorous show on the WST for Kids program. Examples include the 2025 production of "A Christmas Story: The Musical," plus past performances of "ELF: The Broadway Musical," and "Shrek: The Musical." Formerly known as the Kimmel Center, Ensemble Arts Philly makes a wide range of family-friendly entertainment available: from musicals to concerts to holiday spectaculars, with humorous moments playing a big role in some of the productions.
