Swimming Pool Birthday Party FAQs and Tips

When it comes to booking a pool party, keep in mind that many pools are only open in specific seasons and slots are often limited to specific days and times. You’ll want to book well in advance of your party (at least a month) and be flexible. Check your top choices for membership requirements, guest limits, lifeguards, and if you can bring in outside food or drinks.

Water safety - especially when you're responsible for other people's children - is the top priority. Make sure you always have a designated water watcher on duty and that any child who cannot swim or isn’t a strong swimmer doesn’t go in unattended or without a life jacket. If you have the space, encourage parents to join to take some pressure off!

Q: Do swimming pool birthday parties include lifeguards?

A: At the featured pools and water parks, lifeguards are there during opening hours and are included if you book a private party. You may have to pay an additional fee to add more lifeguards if your party is large.

Q: Can a pool party be rescheduled if there’s inclement weather?

A: For most of the outdoor venues on this list, you won’t be able to reschedule for rain. In some instances, if there’s severe weather or lightening that requires guests to be out of the pool for a significant amount of time, a rain check may be given.

Q: Are parents required to swim with their children?

A: Most pools require parents to be actively supervising or within arm’s reach of children under the age of 3 and/or kids who cannot swim well, even if they’re in a life jacket. Some venues may require children to pass a swimming test before going on certain rides or to swim without a grownup.

Q: Are swim diapers required for toddlers and babies?

A: While each pool has different diapering requirements (disposable or reusable swim diapers or both), ALL pools on our list enforce swim diapers for children who are not potty trained. Some of the venues have age limits, so check in with the pool on age requirements and diaper types before you go.

Swimming Birthday Party Favors

If you’re hosting a swimming pool birthday party, you have the perfect opportunity to skip the typical junk and candy-filled goodie bags that won’t last longer than the car ride home and treat your guests to on-theme treats they’ll enjoy at the party and all summer long. Some of our favorite pool party favor ideas include:

  • Pool noodles
  • Sunglasses
  • Beach towels (personalize them with names for an extra special touch)
  • Beach balls
  • Swim goggles
  • Reusable water bottles or straw cups
