Needham Fire and PD Pumpkin Smash
The morning after Halloween, when the candy has been picked clean for Reese’s and KitKats, the kids are riding a sugar high, and the pumpkins on the porch are starting to sag, the Needham Fire and Needham Police Departments have the perfect cure.
Activities include a Touch-a-Truck experience featuring fire engines, police cruisers, DPW excavators, a Boston MedFlight ambulance, a drone presentation, and more. Guests can enjoy free hot dogs and cookies courtesy of Needham Fire Local 1706, served up by the Boston Sparks Rehab Unit, which provides support to firefighters on scene during major incidents.
The popular Pumpkin Smash invites participants to bring their own pumpkin for $5 or select a donated one for $10 (thanks to Volante Farms and Carters). Families can smash their pumpkins firefighter-style to burn off leftover Halloween energy, with all scraps composted locally. Every dollar raised supports the Shop with a First Responder program, benefiting local families during the holiday season in partnership with the Needham Community Council.
The event also marks the Toys for Tots Kickoff, where visitors can bring a toy or make a donation in person, snap a photo with Santa, and help usher in the season of giving. Special guests include members of the Needham Police Working Dogs Foundation, offering meet-and-greet opportunities with the town’s favorite furry friends.
This free community event is open to all and offers families a fun, engaging way to meet local first responders, explore emergency vehicles, and send those pumpkins out in style.
