Harvest Moon Orchard's New Halloween Walk-Thru, Mystic Moon, Delivers Spooky Thrills

Known for its spectacular Holiday lights walk-through experience in the apple orchard, North Salem's Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard has introduced a new walk-through experience this Halloween season called Mystic Moon. Set in the forest area on the outskirts of the farm, amid majestic 80-year-old oak trees, Mystic Moon's synchronized music and lighting transform the forest into an enchanted wonderland featuring whimsical characters and numerous fun photo-ops.
I recently visited with my 10-year-old son, and Mystic Moon did not disappoint. Read on for our review and some tips to make the most of your experience.

Review: Visiting Mystic Moon at Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard with Kids
What should I expect at Mystic Moon?
The Mystic Moon walk-through experience is a loop trail through a forest area starting and ending at a tent with refreshments and gifts for sale. The tent also has fun photo-ops, including a big pumpkin with a hole in the top that kids can crawl inside and stick their heads through. As you enter the trail, you are greeted by Talon, the owl guardian, who will reappear throughout the walk to guide you. He explains that a witch has cast a playful spell on the forest, making the forest and its creatures magical.
You will then proceed on the trails through stunning lighted installations and playful scenes featuring friendly, colorful characters such as barnyard friends turned pumpkins. The centerpiece of the winding trail, and my son's favorite part, is a giant kraken with colorful smoke billowing out of it, and mermaids and pieces of broken boats are interspersed in the trees. The trail also features a 60-foot spiderweb, complete with giant glowing spiders, and a vibrant Mexican Day of the Dead section.

How long is the Halloween walk-through?
The walk was not as long as I expected, and we were probably done in 20 minutes. That said, my kid is older and tends to run through these things. Families with little kids could spend a lot more time at each attraction, and the time spent also depends on how many photo-ops you take advantage of.
What age is Mystic Moon best for?
Mystic Moon is a non-scary Halloween experience and completely kid-friendly. The beautifully lighted trails feature whimsical forest characters, no jump scares. However, the impressive lighting and enchanting atmosphere make it entertaining for older kids and adults as well.
Are Mystic Moon and Harvest Moon Farm stroller-friendly?
Strollers are allowed, and the trails are wide enough to accommodate them. However, the natural terrain might be difficult for standard strollers since the trail is covered with wood chips and the parking lot is gravel. I would definitely recommend a jogger stroller or baby carrier if possible. Unlike the trail through the apple orchard, the Mystic Moon trail is completely flat, so no worry about uphill climbing or pushing.
What should we bring to Mystic Moon?
The farm is situated on a hill, so it does get chilly. I would definitely recommend dressing warmly and wearing layers. Comfortable shoes are also a must for walking on the trails. I also took my water bottle in case we got thirsty on the walk.
Are refreshments available?
Yes. At the entrance/exit, there is a big tent with vendors inside serving light bites, baked goods, drinks like hot chocolate and apple cider for kids, and festive cocktails for adults.
How do I get tickets to Mystic Moon?
Tickets can be purchased on the Harvest Moon website. The trail is open on select days through Saturday, November 1, 2025. Timed-entry tickets can be purchased online, with two options: standard admission and twilight hour. The twilight hour slots are at 6pm and 6:15pm. These are best for families with young children who prefer to have more light on the trails. Kids ages 3 and under are free, no ticket required. Slots are every 15 minutes.
