Jessica Laird's picture Submitted by Jessica Laird on Thu, 01/27/2022 - 11:00am

Accredited online schools like PA Cyber offer freedom and flexibility, while providing kids with a high-quality education.

Pennsylvania families are lucky to have school choice, allowing them to select the type of K-12 education that best fits their child and to have public funds allocated to whichever option they pick—whether that’s a public, private, or charter school. But many parents don’t realize that school choice also applies to online schools, which are growing in popularity now that many families have experienced virtual education and seen the flexibility and other advantages remote schools can provide.

Accredited online schools offer freedom and flexibility, while providing kids with a high-quality education. And, if you live in Pennsylvania, virtual public schools like the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School are free of charge. If you’re thinking about applying to an online academy, here’s what you need to know before picking a virtual K-12 program for your child.

How to Find In-Home or Online Music Lessons for Kids in Four Steps

Jessica Laird's picture Submitted by Jessica Laird on Wed, 01/12/2022 - 10:00am

This dad-owned business has been matching New York City kids with highly-trained teachers for more than 15 years.

Forget lugging your kid’s guitar on a crowded 6 train or sloshing through a New York City snowstorm to get to a piano lesson. If skilled instructors who will teach your child "Here Comes the Sun" on the ukulele in the comfort of your own home or through an engaging virtual music lesson sound more your speed, Hey Joe Guitar Music School is about to game-change your future Beethoven's education. The dad-owned business has been matching Manhattan and Brooklyn children (and adults) with highly-trained teachers for private in-home lessons for more than 15 years and, now, they’re offering flexible online lessons and hybrid options too.

Hey Joe Guitar was founded by fourth-generation New Yorker and long-time musician, Joe Berger, after countless friends asked him to recommend music teachers for themselves and their children. With the school in its second decade, he's still personally involved with every client and monitors each instructor. Above all, he takes care of perfectly matching teachers to eager learners.

From Joe's helpful hand-holding to the program's promise of individualized attention and flexibility with both in-person and virtual lessons, this stress-free learning style is tough to top—and getting started is as easy as one, two, three, four.

Spin, Build, and Sort at New Wobbly World Exhibit at Liberty Science Center

Jessica Laird's picture Submitted by Jessica Laird on Mon, 12/20/2021 - 11:00am

Wobbly World is a new 2,600-square-foot off-kilter wonderland for kids 5 and under.

Like something of a STEM-powered funhouse, Wobbly World is the newest interactive exhibit to open at the Liberty Science Center. Since the first week of December, the bright and somewhat off-kilter kid oasis has been inviting little ones ages 0-5 to balance on hills, build with oversized blocks, and even spin on a giant mobile that’s literally powered by play.

Brought to life with the help of renowned toy designer Cas Holman, the exhibition engages kids in a totally unique way, encouraging them to explore mobility and uncertainty in a safe and comfortable environment. Of course, I couldn’t pass up the chance to take my 3 and 5 year olds to this one-of-a-kind wonderland, so we hopped in the car on a Sunday morning and headed over to LSC for some dizzying fun (and you better believe we snuck in some other favorite attractions while we were there too).

In these digital days, typing has become an essential skill for kids.
