A Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine in Essex

Jennifer Coe's picture Submitted by Jennifer Coe on Tue, 04/25/2017 - 1:33pm

A Day Out With Thomas the Tank Engine at the Essex Museum is a right of passage in many homes. There is nothing like seeing the face of your toddler light up when he sees that familiar bright blue train from Sodor. When the voice and train your child has become so familiar with is all of a sudden sitting on a track in front of you, it's pretty mind blowing! Thomas will be in Essex for two more weekends before chugging along (April 29-30 and May 6-7, 2017).

Travel Back in Time at the Vintage Radio and Television Museum

Jennifer Coe's picture Submitted by Jennifer Coe on Thu, 04/20/2017 - 10:00am

It's hard to believe a place like this even exists.  The Vintage Radio and Television Museum in Windsor will transport you backwards in time all the way to the 1800's. At this jam-packed museum, you will find yourself reminiscing about the technology of your own youth as well as decades before. Your kids will be amazed by the televisions of the 1950's, the radios of the 1940's, and even the quirky ways we used to call each other on a phone...with a cord. For more fun family museum suggestions check out our Museum Guide.

Jennifer Coe's picture Submitted by Jennifer Coe on Sat, 02/11/2017 - 12:00am

Do your children opt to act or dance instead of play team sports? Participating in a play or a performance of some type is a great experience and teaches kids all about teamwork and reaching personal goals. If your son or daughter loves to be on-stage or in front of the camera tap-dancing their hearts out then New Haven has a camp for them! And of course, check out our entire  CT Summer Camp Guide and our Summer Camp Directory.

Knights of Columbus Museum Creche Display: Parent Review

Jennifer Coe's picture Submitted by Jennifer Coe on Thu, 12/22/2016 - 8:45pm

Check website for 2018 details.

The holidays are a great time for families to do a lot of things together. Sometimes, though, we need a break from the noisy busyness of visits with Santa and holiday parties. It's a relief to find a couple of quiet places to go like the Creche in Bethlehem, Conn. or the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven.

Located in the heart of downtown New Haven, the Knights of Columbus Museum has been attracting visitors since 1982.  The site serves as an archival location for information on the Catholic fraternal organization (KofC) but also as a site for amazing annual exhibits during the Christmas season.

Annual Festival of Trees at the Wadsworth Atheneum: Parent Review

Jennifer Coe's picture Submitted by Jennifer Coe on Fri, 12/09/2016 - 5:54pm

It's that time of year when twinkling lights and shiny bulbs are everywhere.  But I'll bet you have never seen a unique bevy of Christmas trees like the ones you will see at the Festival of Trees at the Wadsworth Atheneum.  This annual event has been going for 43 years (I know!), and was established by the Women's Committee of the Museum as a fundraiser. Don't miss out, this Sunday is the last day of the festival.

Every year, my family and I make our trek into Hartford. It's a great opportunity for my boys to be exposed to some amazing artists and to see the beautiful decorated trees people have created.
