Town and Country Resort in San Diego: A Family-Friendly Stay Parents Will Love
As a parent who has stayed in more San Diego hotels with kids than I can count. It feels like we’re always heading to San Diego for visits to Legoland California, the San Diego Zoo, La Jolla getaways, seeing shows at the Old Globe, and even to watch the Dodgers beat the Padres (sorry locals!).
I travel a lot with my family, and I know the difference between a resort that claims to be family-friendly and one that actually delivers. And I can say that now that I’ve stayed there, Town and Country Resort in San Diego has made it to my list of best San Diego hotels for families. After our recent stay, I can share the insider scoop—including the retro vibe, activities, pool, central location, everyone-approved dining options and more. If you’re planning a San Diego family vacation, here’s my honest parent-tested review of Town and Country Resort.

Why Town and Country Resort in San Diego Appeals to Parents
I can sum this up in a word: Easy. That’s really all we want as parents. We want things that make life a little easier. And everything about Town and Country Resort is easy. Easy to get to, no matter your San Diego destination. It’s right off the 5 and the 8, so you can hop on the freeway to get anywhere. The parking is easy. The resort is large, but easy to navigate and impossible for kids to lose their way.
It’s easy to walk to a huge mall to pick up anything that you lost (or send teens over for an Escape Room adventure while you lounge in the hot tub). It’s easy to bring kids of any age, your family dog, and grandparents. It’s easy to hop on the tram to get anywhere in the city, and not worry about where to park. I could keep going, but I’ll get to more ways the resort makes life easy in the rest of this review!
Family-Friendly Rooms & Accommodations
There are suites or standard rooms, and the either (with the two queen bed options) sleep up to 4 comfortably, plus a crib. (And yes, it’s easy to request a crib. If you forget to request a crib when you reserve your room, simply text housekeeping once you check in and someone will bring it right down.)
There aren’t super-sized suites for mutli-generational travel, but the size of the rooms vary from about 250 square feet for a standard room to 1100 square feet for the largest suite. Larger families will probably want to book multiple rooms.

You can't tell from this picture, but this slide is 4 stories high!
Pools, Slide, and More Games & Activities
See that slide? It’s called the Twister, and it’s a 4-story waterslide that your kids will flip for. You enjoy it too, but what you’ll really flip for? The fact that the main pool is massive, so there’s always room for your whole family, and it deepens very gradually, so you can play in it with toddlers to teens. For tiny kids, the baby pool is perfect, starting at zero inches and very gradually getting just deep enough that parents can pull a chair into the pool and sit it in, keeping cool, keeping an eye on the baby, and also keeping an eye on bigger kids who want to go down the waterslide again. And again.
And that’s not all. Ask for the Scavenger Hunt for kids to go on, make s’mores by one of the many fire pits, play corn hole, bocce, or beach volleyball. There’s something for kids of every age to do, and that’s not even taking into account all of the seasonal events and activities taking place. (Check with your oh-so-friendly concierge when you check in; events change with the season.)

Dining at Town and Country Resort with Kids
True confession: we blew off several meals we were planning at our usual favorites in La Jolla and the Gaslight District because we liked the food at the resort so much. Here’s what to eat, where:
ARLO — This is the fine dining restaurant at the resort, and it’s frankly on par with any hotel dining experience. The food is fantastic and the service is stellar. However, if you’ve got young or picky kids, an evening meal here might not be for you. If you want to try ARLO with young kids, I’d recommend coming for the weekend brunch.
Lapper Sports Bar + Kitchen — This is the sports bar, and has a great kids menu. Parents of younger kids that want a sit down meal will find themselves eating here multiple times, and quite happily. The food is definitely a step up from typical sports bar fare! I personally highly recommend the fish tacos and the pizzas.
The MRKT — This is the best grab-and-go market food I have ever encountered at a resort. We went back several times, sometimes just for french fries or pizza to snack on by the firepits or pool. Everything is tasty, but here are the can’t miss items: the chicken sandwich has melt-in-your mouth chicken (it tastes like it was cooked sous vide, I swear), and the chocolate muffin with a core of Nutella is kind of to die for.
Parent Insider Tips
I mentioned the scavenger hunt?Get that when you arrive, and let the kids have a blast over the course of their stay. I also mentioned that this is a pet-friendly hotel, but with a dog park, loads of green spaces, and treats for your pup, it’s a no-brainer to bring your fur baby along with you. It’s also really fun for kids to encounter all the dogs throughout the resort.
Get a stellar cocktail (or mocktail) from Monkeybar and sip on it in the baby pool, while sitting on a chair where you can watch your baby while having a sight line of your bigger kids on the slide.
Housekeeping is available by text at any time, and they’re wonderful and responsive. If you spend as much time in the pool as we did, you’ll need extra towels. Frequently. Simply text them when you’re getting ready to leave the pool, and they’ll be waiting in your room by the time you get there (they were for us on more than one occasion!).
And finally, read the silly sayings you’ll find painted on walls throughout the resort to your kids. Several of them will make your kids howl. (Yes, my kids asked me if I was older than Google, or that was just a joke. Sadly, not a joke.)
