Weekend Getaways from Orlando for Families

1. Daytona Beach, Florida

Distance from Orlando: 1 hour

Daytona Beach isn’t just about sun and sand — it’s packed with fun for the whole family! Just a quick drive from Orlando, this beach town has it all: splash-worthy waves, live music at the Daytona Beach Bandshell, and non-stop action along the bustling pier and boardwalk. Feeling adventurous? Check out the Daytona International Speedway, explore cool exhibits at the Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS), or zip through the treetops at Daytona Beach Zipline Adventure.

Heads-up: Daytona gets wild during spring break (think college crowds and loud parties), so it’s not the best time for a family visit. It’s also home to the Daytona 500 — a massive NASCAR event — so unless you're here for the race, you might want to plan around it to skip the crowds.

2. Tampa Bay, Florida

Distance from Orlando: 1.5 hours

Pack up the crew and cruise over to Florida’s Gulf Coast for a weekend in Tampa. From toddlers to teens, there’s something for everyone: little ones will love the hands-on fun at the Glazer Children’s Museum, thrill-seekers can conquer the coasters at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, and curious minds of all ages will geek out at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI). Add in animal encounters at ZooTampa at Lowry Park, underwater adventures at The Florida Aquarium, and you’ve got a weekend full of wide eyes and tired feet.

Need a break? Soak up the sun on one of Tampa’s beautiful beaches, wander the scenic Tampa Riverwalk, or hop aboard a pirate ship cruise. And if you’ve got extra time, make time for a detour to Weeki Wachee Springs State Park — where real-life mermaids put on a show in an underwater theater!

Distance from Orlando: 3 hours

Looking for a relaxing family weekend getaway? Amelia Island is just the spot. Its calm beaches are perfect for unwinding, and there’s plenty to keep the kids busy too.
