Weekend events in NJ January 22-23: FREE Wassail Party at Terhune Orchards, An Owl Prowl, Balloon Story Theater and More!

Feel like burning up some old Christmas trees? Or dancing and howling around some apple trees? There’s a lot of outdoor fun in NJ this weekend, so pull on your long underwear and head out. Of course, if you’d rather not freeze your patootie off, you can go indoors for a fairy princess tea party, some Cabin Fever movie shorts or a balloon animal extravaganza. Have a great time!
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
You know we love Terhune Orchards, so throw in a little wassailing and you’ve got an afternoon of good times. Chant, make music, bring your favorite noisemaker (and no, we don’t mean your toddler), drink hot cider, toast marshmallows over the bonfire and drive those evil spirits out of the apple trees! Live music by the Spice Punch Quartet. Sunday, Jan. 23 from 1pm to 4pm. FREE. 609-924-2310.
Yuletide Bonfire (Warren)
We love Warren Townships’s method of getting rid of old Christmas trees—burn them in a spectacular bonfire and have a party. Live entertainment, free snacks and hot chocolate, carriage rides; ice skating and snowman building, weather permitting. Saturday, Jan. 22 from 6pm to 9pm. FREE.
A Fairy Tale Princess Tea Party (Budd Lake)
We usually don’t highlight events way out in the northwestern portion of our fair state, but a children’s play where Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Rapunzel have tea together? That’s a no-brainer. Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11am. $12/per ticket. 973-691-2100
The Love Bug’s Hug (West Windsor)
If your kids love balloon animals, this is the show for them. Annie Hickman and Allynn Gooen have been performing their fanciful Balloon Story Theater for over twenty-five years all over the world. At the Kelcey Theater at MCCC, Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2pm and 4pm. $10/Adults, $8 kids. 609-570-3333.
Cabin Fever Movie Series (Morristown)
If you feel like spending an afternoon in the nice warm indoors watching something that’s not Spongebob, head over to the Frelinghuysen Arboretum Auditorium for a trio of move shorts: “Ana in the Rain Forest”, “Journey of the Blob” and “The Sandbox”. Sunday, Jan. 23 from 2pm to 4pm. $5/person.
New Jersey Owl Prowl (Plainsboro)
Learn some cool owl facts and then bundle up and head out for a hike to see the real deal in the Plainsboro Preserve. Saturday, Jan. 22 from 6pm to 8pm. $3/members, $5/non-members. Pre-register at 609-897-9400.
