Vacation Day Workshop: Social Justice Comics at the Jewish Museum
Mon Jan 20, 2025
11:00am to 2:30pm ET
Age: 11-14
Price: Free
In this free workshop—in celebration of MLK Jr. Day—students consider how artists use the language of cartoons and comics to approach challenging topics and create their own comics addressing social issues, drawing inspiration from the exhibition Draw Them In Paint Them Out: Trenton Doyle Hancock Confronts Philip Guston.
Hancock and Guston both use satire and humor to approach challenging subject matter, such as racism, antisemitism, and white supremacy. While students will not directly examine the more graphic images in the exhibition, they will view cartoonish depictions of Ku Klux Klan figures.
Pizza lunch and all art materials are provided.
