Experience history coming alive by stepping into the past through immersive, site-wide programs including:

  • U.S. Colored Troops Encampment – Civil War reenactors from Living History Co. bring the history of Black soldiers to life.
  • Reading of General Order No. 3 – The pivotal proclamation that marked emancipation in Texas.
  • Interactive Talks and Demonstrations – Including hearth cooking in the Guyon-Lake-Tysen House, an exploration of Sandy Ground oystermen, and the meaning behind cultural traditions like "Jumping the Broom".
