If you've been to Monmouth County lately, you may have noticed a mysterious invasion of little duckies. That's because members of the Monmouth County Ducks Facebook group—and anyone who wants to join in the fun—have been creating a whimsical scavenger hunt for local kids and adults.
So, read on for details on how to get in on the action and keep your eyes peeled: You never know where you might spot one of these faux feathered friends this summer. If your kids can't get enough of the scavenger hunt fun, we've got more ideas for staging a scavenger hunt at home or in your 'hood.

Monmouth County Ducks founder Christine Scannella hopes to gain more followers and find more ducks this summer!
Inspired by the "Cruising Ducks" trend on cruise lines, the rules of the game are simple. Players get a duck of their choice to hide. It could be a little rubber ducky, a yarn duck, a duck bracelet, or even a duck painted on a stone or seashell. Then, people hide the little quacker in a public place in Monmouth County, like a local business or playground, for others to find.
The Facebook group encourages hidden duck enthusiasts to include a tag with a message like: "Oh what luck! You found a duck! Keep or hide, you decide! Visit Monmouth County Ducks Facebook page and post a pic!" Some people even add their name to the tag. The duck hiders are also invited to post a picture of their duck in the Facebook group with a clue about where to find it, then keep an eye on the page to see who finds their duck and where it gets hidden next.
As of mid-June, the group has about 500 members, and founder Christine Scannella hopes others will join in the fun. "I'm hoping to gain more members and have more [people] participate, especially with the summer coming up. I thought of it as a great summer activity for kids!" she says.
We're all about FREE summer fun, so head to Monmouth County Ducks to learn more and join in the hunt.
