How To Make Mason Jar Terrariums for Fairies or Gnomes
Mason jar terrariums are the perfect project to get kids into gardening. They are easy to make and even easier to care for. Plus you can create a fantasy fairy or gnome garden to spark little imaginations and green thumbs.
You can make your own terrarium with things you probably have around the house: an old jar or glass, and a spare toy figurine. Add natural elements like pebbles, seashells, pinecones, twigs and moss. Pick up a small succulent at the green market or florist (or take a clipping from one you already have), and you'll be all set to make your own little world.

Materials for Mason Jar Terrariums
- Mason jar
- Pebbles
- Planting soil
- Small succulent (these plants require very little water)
- Seashells, twigs, figures, etc.
Directions for Making Mason Jar Terrariums
1. Place a layer of rocks on the bottom of the mason jar to allow for drainage. Put a layer of soil over the rocks, and poke a little hole in the soil with your finger.
2. Plant the succulent in the little hole and fill it in with a little more soil.
3. Add your figurine or other elements.
Show us what you make. Share it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tag @mommypoppins so we can see your creations, too!
