Docent Gale teaches kids about the ecology of the chaparral and how the Chumash and Tongva shared, and continue to share, its material culture.

This is an all sensory experience: participants can see some of the amazing beauty of So Cal, delight in the delicious scents of scratch-n-sniff plants, hear the song of the acorn woodpecker, and even taste some of treats of the chaparral with goodies like elderberry gummies and acorn cookies.

Each walk is different depending upon the group and the weather, but it may include sharing traditional (and some not traditional) stories and songs, playing traditional Chumash games and instruments, "tattooing" with nature's pigments, science experiments, learning about Grandmother Oak, making soap with ceanothus seeds or something else quite wonderful.

Walkers may even hear the shrill call of the Great Hawk, indicating that treasure is near by.

For families with children ages 4 - 11 (although older and younger are welcome).

The group meets at the wooden rotunda at the far end of the parking lot. The hike is about 1 mile with many stops.

Parking is $10. Arrive early for parking and to use facilities. Closed toed shoes are best. Bring water and snacks.  No dogs as per CA State Parks regulations. . Rain postpones.
