Insider Tips for Visiting Denver with Kids
Best Time of Year to Visit Denver
The best time of year to visit depends on your interests. If your family prefers winter sports like skiing, ice skating, and snowboarding, make sure to book your tickets for late fall or winter. If you prefer warmer weather, late spring and early summer provides the perfect setting for Denver's gorgeous hikes, outdoor walks, and fantastic views.
Getting Around Denver
Getting around Denver is fairly easy! The light rail goes from Denver International Airport to Denver Union Station. This affordable public transportation also covers more than 100 miles throughout the metro region. If you're visiting downtown Denver, jump on the free electric buses along the 16th Street Mall. And of course, this outdoorsy city is super bike-friendly.
How to Save Money in Denver
Save money by buying tickets ahead of time—some attractions offer a savings for pre-purchased entries. Also, bundle multiple entry attractions with one purchase through CityPass (Downtown Aquarium, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Denver Botanic Gardens, Children's Museum of Denver, Denver Art Museum, Denver Zoo, and more).
Tips for Altitude Adjustment with Kids
To be honest, my kids have no problem adjusting to Denver's higher elevation. But if your kids need to adapt, here are some tips: Give yourself a day to adjust (if you have the time), drink lots of water (the climate is high and dry, and dehydration can make symptoms worse), pack some bananas (potassium is known to help), rest when necessary, and worst case, visit the doctor for prescription medication to help with change in altitude.

The STEM-centered Children's Museum of Denver lets kids explore, build, and play.
