Five Easy and Fun Halloween Crafts

10/7/13 - By Sonia Gonzalez

Halloween is in the air, and it's one of my favorite holidays! I love the spookiness and silliness of the season and seeing my kids dressed up in their costumes, their imaginations running wild as they transform into princesses, devils, ladybugs, and vampires.

Last week we told you about Halloween costume swaps for kids. Now we've got five fun and EASY Halloween crafts, so even tots can join the fun. So grab your glitter, googly eyes, and scissors (and newspaper to protect your table) and enjoy these Halloween crafts.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Halloween Nightlights
These adorable little lanterns make great nightlights for the kids' room. You can also use them to decorate your front porch or window sill. Best of all: no matches required!

What You'll Need
Empty baby food jars
Orange and white crepe paper or tissue paper
Elmer’s glue or Mod Podge
Black construction paper
LED flicker candles

1. Cut or tear the crepe paper into pieces.
2. Coat the outside of the glass jar with glue or Mod Podge.
3. Take the pieces of crepe paper and stick them onto the jar.
4. Once it’s covered, glaze on another coat of glue. Let dry.
5. Cut the jack-o-lantern and ghost eyes, nose, and mouth out of black construction paper.
6. Glue them to the front of the jar and put an LED flicker candle inside.

Glitter Pumpkin
Glam up your little pumpkins in a few quick and easy steps.

What You'll Need
Pumpkins
Glitter
Mod Podge
Paint brush
Embellishments (optional)

Steps
1. Paint only glue onto clean pumpkin.
2. Sprinkle thoroughly with glitter.
3. Allow glue to dry completely (about 1 hour).
4. Add embellishments as desired.

Pumpkin Placecards
Super easy to make, these cute pumpkin place cards are a great craft to do with kids.

What You'll Need
Construction Paper (orange and green)
Green pipe cleaners
Ruler
Pencil
Scissors
Hole punch
Marker

1. Draw a simple leaf shape onto green paper, about 1 3/4" long and 1 1/2" wide. Cut out leaf shape.
2. Punch a hole at base of leaf and use marker to personalize.
3. Measure and mark twelve 5" x 3/4" strips from colored paper.
4. Punch a hole at both ends of each strip, about 1/4" in from edge. Cut out strips, then lay the strips atop one another, aligning edges and holes.
5. Insert pipe cleaner into punched holes at one end of strip stack. Make a small loop or knot at end of pipe cleaner for bottom of pumpkin.
6. Thread long end of pipe cleaner through opposite holes of strip stack, bending paper into a "U" shape. Secure with a loop to retain "U" shape.
7. Thread leaf onto pipe cleaner. Wrap remaining pipe cleaner around pencil to create curls and bend as desired.
8. Fan out the strips to make your pumpkin.

Batty Treat Holders
Recycle those empty toilet paper rolls by transforming them into adorable treat holders or display them on table tops and dressers.

What You’ll Need
Paper bag
Toilet paper roll
Black craft paint
Silver glitter glue
Glue

1. Paint toilet paper roll black.
2. While it dries, cut bat wings and two tiny bat ears from the paper bag.
3. Use silver glitter glue to add eyes, a mouth and fangs to your bat tube.
4. Once the bat’s body is completely dry, attach the wings and ears with a bit of glue.
4. Fill with whatever your little trick-or-treater likes.

Bottle Cap Spiders
Have fun with these easy-to-make creepy crawlies.

What You'll Need
Bottle caps
Black pipe cleaners
Hot glue
Regular glue
Googly eyes

1. Cut the legs and hot glue them to the back of the cap.
2. After they dry, bend the legs out in a spidery fashion.
3. Glue on as many googly eyes as you wish.
