"...how could any one individual buy, wrap up, and expedite so many presents for one single day in the year as my mother did? . . . The work began weeks before the holy day. Even so, there seemed always to be a rush at the end.” ~ Mark Twain

For Sam and Livy Clemens, the best Christmases were the ones they celebrated at home in Hartford with their three daughters. Learn more about their Christmas traditions, including selecting (or making) the perfect gift and hanging the children’s stockings under the supervision of Apollinaris the cat. Join us as a curator and historian from the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford explains how Connecticut’s most famous author (and our Library’s founder!) celebrated Yuletide with friends and family.

This is a virtual program that will take place over Zoom. Register below to receive a link the day of the program, and include your cell for a text reminder. The Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford is where Samuel Clemens and his family lived from 1874 to 1891, and where Twain wrote many of his most important works, including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Today, the historic house is a museum and National Historic Landmark offering tours, educational programs, and exhibitions about Twain’s life and work. Photo Credit: Mark Twain House & Museum
